Top Turkey and Happy Thanksgiving
On behalf of the EGMS Student Government and the East Granby Friend to Friend Food Pantry, we would like to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone for your generosity and efforts in supporting our families in need these past few weeks! Our EGMS Student Government was able to collect over 500 food items and raise over $200 to donate on Monday, November 24! To celebrate, EGMS Student Government led a popsicle celebration in the EGMS Gym to kickoff the Thanksgiving Break. We hope everyone has a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving Break!

Grade 7 PE
Congrats to the Quarter 2 Pickleball Champions, Natalie Passeri and Alexa Nelson!

Life Skills: Thanksgiving Feast
Dr. Schoorens' Life Skills students have been working on their annual Thanksgiving feast all week. They started with setting a menu and budgeting for the groceries across three different stores to find the best deal, then went on a field trip to Aldi earlier this week to buy the groceries. After cooking for the past two days, they finally got to enjoy all of their hard work. Attached are some pictures from their feast.

Cooking Club
Mrs. Corey's Cooking Club had a successful pasta making experience afterschool. It looks like they were going to have a nice dinner!

Gr 8 Science
In Dr. Faulkner's class, students created models to show how plate tectonics work and how they are responsible for scientific phenomena like volcanic eruptions and continental drift. We also had the projects on the same day where we had some extra "security detail" watching our school from up in the trees (i.e. a rafter of turkeys!).
7th Grade Science
In Mrs. Ciccarelli's class, students explored a physical change that had an endothermic dissolution reaction. This was a student driven experiment based on questions that students had from our baking soda, citric acid and water combination., which is the driving force to what makes a bath bomb bubble and fizz. They wanted to know if it was the same type of reaction in an ice pack that you get when you have a small injury.

Veterans Day
EGMS celebrated our local veterans in school on Monday, November 10! We shared an assembly with EGHS and invited the veterans to come back to our classrooms to share their stories from when they served our country. We are thankful for their service!

Gr 7 Social Studies - Mrs. Peterson
To conclude their unit on North American geography & history, students created museum exhibits based off of their research about Indigenous Peoples of the Northeast Woodland & New England region.

Student Government
Students in Student Government spent their last meeting prepping for our annual EGMS Top Turkey Food Drive. Student Government will be collecting non-perishable and hygiene products from Nov 11-24 for our Friend to Friend Food Pantry in town!

Visit from the Superintendent
On Friday, November 7, Superintendent Palmeiri joined our Grade 7 Assembly for the "REMIS" (I.e. weekly awards to students for Respect, Empathy, Manners, Initiative, and Scholarship) to speak about what it means to have good citizenship through the lens of our "Portrait of a Graduate" initiative. Some major takeaways echoed by some community members included how it's better to have empathy and to be supportive than to judge and speak with gossip. "Words can hurt and create realities that aren't there... you can't just yell 'fire'". Thank you to Superintendent Palmeiri for the words of wisdom and encouragement to our 7th graders!

Spirit Week: Day 5 - Spooky Spirit Day
Great costumes, great fun, and a great way to end October!
Spirit Week: Day Four - Students as Teachers; Teachers as Students
This one's our favorite at EGMS! The pictures say it all... we ALL had fun with this one!

Intro to Theater
Mrs. Gilbert's Intro to Theater class performed their final pieces on the last days of the 1st quarter! 7th graders wrote scripts, designed costumes, coordinated tech and lights, and used stage props to act out their final projects. Teamwork, collaboration between teams, and lots of creative thinking poured into these great demonstrations of art!
Spirit Week - Day Three: Pink Out
Students and Faculty/Staff at EGMS wore pink to raise awareness for breast cancer, and it was impressive just how visibly involved our community was on Wednesday the 29th!

Spirit Week: Day Two - Rhymes with no Reason
This was a fun and quirky one. Lots of laughs as this "guy with a tie" walked around with his "art on a cart"... see if you can figure some of the rhymes out!
Here are some video links to explain some of them:

Spirit Week: Day One - Jerseys!
Students and Faculty wore sports jerseys on Monday October 27th. Some wore their favorite players while others wore their own! (The Patriots of from the 200s and 2010s were well represented!).
8th Grade Science Leaf Project
Students in Dr. Faulkner's 8th Grade Science class collected leaves and made "windows" for the leaves with waxed paper accompanied by inspirational quotes. It's one of our fun and more decorative projects of the school year!

Congratulations to the winners of the election at EGMS! Lots of thought, hard work, and creativity went into the campaigning done by the students running for offices within our EGMS Student Government. These elected students are tasked with leading and being the voice of the student body to help make our school climate even better! They may even throw some ideas our way in the form of some fun shenanigans that spice up the school from time to time... we look forward to working with them!
