7th Grade MET CAD Students Bring Their Designs to Life with Tinkercad and 3D Printing

This quarter, our seventh-grade MET CAD students took on an exciting challenge that combined creativity, engineering, and technology. Each student designed their own maze using Tinkercad, an easy-to-use online 3D design platform, allowing them to explore the process of creating a 3D model from scratch.

Once the designs were finalized, the students were able to bring their ideas to life with the help of our 3D printers. The printed mazes were carefully constructed to include intricate paths and traps, testing both their design skills and their ability to think critically about how to create functional yet challenging obstacles.

To ensure the ball didn’t escape while navigating the maze, an acrylic top was added to their creations. This final touch not only added durability but also kept the ball inside, allowing the designs to function as intended.

On Wednesday, September 24, Professional Juggler Jason Tardy visited EGMS to do an amazing display of juggling skills (and of what things can but shouldn't be done with a foldable extension ladder)! More importantly, Jason's positive message to our students was about what bullying actually looks like and how to either not do it or to stand up to it! Many thanks to East Granby Youth Services for putting this assembly together for our students!

In Mrs. Provencher's 8th Grade Math class, students were tasked with in-class competitions to engineer the longest chains by creating links with only using scissors, tape, and one 8.5x11 sheet of paper! Students were collaborating and communicating while using their critical and creative thinking skills to come up with some awesome solutions in this exercise.

In early September, Dr. Faulkner's 8th grade science students were working with Monarch Butterflies. Students were tasked with raising, tagging, and releasing these beautiful creatures for their amazing migration over thousands of miles south for the winter. The work was fun, and the weather was beautiful!
